The Red River Valley Juvenile Center completes 45-day Behavioral Evaluations for males and females 10-18 years of age in either a secure or non-secure setting. These evaluations are designed to provide the Court and the referring agency an overview of the resident's current emotional, mental and physical needs.
The facility staff provide 24-hour behavioral observation and documentation to assist the treatment team in identifying a child's and family's strengths and areas of possible intervention.
The Behavioral Evaluation consists of a number of components which are integrated into a final report including:
- Family interview to identify family strengths and weaknesses and physical needs within the home
- Casey Life Skills and Problem Oriented Screening Instrument for Teenagers (POSIT) Assessment
- Legal History
- Past Placement History
- Rule 25 Assessment (arranged upon request)
- An Educational Assessment (completed by Crookston School District #593 / RRVJC)
- Mental Health Assessment (completed by Northwestern Mental Health Center). Options available through this agency include:
- Diagnostic Assessment
- Psychological Testing
- Psychiatric Evaluation
In addition to the above, every resident's Behavioral Evaluation includes a Youth Level of Service/Case Management Inventory (YLSCMI) completed by RRVJC staff.
The psychology clinical team completes the family assessment to examine family relationships, behavior management, social functioning and family strengths.
The results of these evaluations are included in the final report provided to the referring agency and the Court.
