RRVJC Education

One of the most important predictors of adolescent success is education and this is reinforced by an intensive educational experience for all of the adolescents placed at the RRVJC.

The Northern Lights Academy (District #593) provides two certified special education instructors providing alternative education options and services to students with special needs.

The hands-on creative approach addresses current graduation requirements as well as remediation in an encouraging and nurturing environment. Backed by the diagnostic testing of the school district’s special education department, this provides a special resource for the hardest to reach adolescents.

Students can prepare for and complete Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments and utilize non-web based computer resources as a daily part of their education experience.

The education program offers a ratio of eight students to one teacher which provides for multiple one-on-one or small group opportunities. Instruction includes indoor and outdoor learning environments and supervised off-site educational activities to adolescents completing the residential evaluation and/or the 90-day programming.

Facility educational components include, but are not limited to:

  • Individual education plans based on student’s background, needs, and course work from the home school district
  • Reading and literacy enhancement
  • Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment preparation and testing
  • Career exploration
  • Licensed special education staff
